Hydronic Balancing

Hydronic Balancing

When designing a heating or cooling system, engineers determine how much flow is needed to meet the building’s heating and cooling loads. It is important that the design flow is available at all terminals to ensure comfort levels.

An unbalanced hydronic system will suffer from noisy operation, high energy consumption, inadequate heating or cooling, and reduced valve and pump life.

Hydronic systems must be proportionally balanced to minimize throttling losses first, then trim the pump impeller or adjust the pump speed to meet design flow conditions.
